Profile

Retirement had already become an active season of service for Jeff. Volunteering with his homeowner’s association and the Olivenhain Fire Safe Council, he realized he still had the time—and the desire—to give back even more. So, when Don Sine invited him to visit Coastal Encinitas Rotary in 2024, Jeff accepted, not knowing that a single meeting would spark a passion for Rotary and eventually lead him to the club presidency just two years later.

That first meeting left a lasting impression.

“I was touched by the speaker representing a local charity,” Jeff recalls. “I was also impressed with how much the club members genuinely enjoyed one another.”

Inspired by both the mission and the camaraderie, Jeff immediately immersed himself in club activities. He volunteered for service projects, joined both the Community Service and International Service Committees, and quickly discovered a group of people whose commitment to making a difference matched his own. Today, just two years later, Jeff says he is honored to serve as President of Coastal Encinitas Rotary.

One experience stands above all others in shaping his Rotary journey: traveling to Guatemala with fellow members of the International Service Committee. Seeing firsthand how local Rotarians transform their communities left a lasting impression.

“I was amazed at what a difference a small group of Guatemala Rotarians can make,” he says. “I’m proud that our club is able to contribute to their efforts.”

As he begins his presidential year, Jeff believes Coastal Encinitas Rotary’s greatest strengths are its unwavering commitment to service, its creativity in solving problems, its willingness to help one another, and its remarkable ability to have fun while making a difference.

Rather than seeing himself as someone who directs others, Jeff views his role as a facilitator and communicator—helping members succeed and supporting the many projects and activities that make the club so special.

When asked what he hopes members will remember at the end of the year, his answer is refreshingly simple:

“If our club members can look back and say they are proud of what we accomplished—and that we had a lot of fun doing it—I’ll be very happy.”

Away from Rotary, Jeff has devoted considerable time to personal growth and mindful living. He meditates regularly, practices the Lao Tsu tradition of Qigong, is a certified Qigong healer, and serves on the board of the Conscious Living Foundation. His ongoing commitment to self-awareness and personal development reflects the thoughtful, grounded leadership style he brings to the club.

As the new Rotary year begins, Jeff has a simple message for every member:

“I am so looking forward to the coming year. I think we can do good things for our community and have a great time with each other doing them.”

With that spirit of service, collaboration, and friendship, Coastal Encinitas Rotary looks forward to another outstanding year under Jeff’s leadership.
