Beach Nourishment and the Future of Our Coastline- Dave Skelly

David Skelly, a Point Loma native and UCSD Magna Cum Laude graduate, is a licensed civil engineer with decades of experience in coastal processes and environmental documentation. A former UC Regents Fellow at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, he worked on coastal erosion issues worldwide and co-authored the Coast of California Storm and Tidal Wave Study. Dave later co-founded and sold GeoSoils Inc., a leading geotechnical engineering firm in Southern California. Now semi-retired, he continues to consult on critical coastal projects, most recently helping rebuild oceanfront homes in Malibu after the fires. When he’s not working, Dave can be found surfing or playing two-man beach volleyball at Moonlight Beach—where he also witnessed firsthand the recent nourishment project he’ll be discussing, along with the long-term challenges of sea level rise.
