Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club Delivers Heartfelt Support to Local Charities Following Golf Ball Drop Success

Three nonprofit partners receive vital funding from the signature fundraiser event.

The Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club (ECR) proudly presented donations to three impactful local nonprofits this summer, following the success of its annual Golf Ball Drop fundraiser held in May 2025. Beneficiaries of this year’s event include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego – Griset Ranch in Encinitas, Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, and Just in Time for Foster Youth.
This signature fundraiser—featuring a helicopter drop of numbered golf balls, music, food, and community fun—continues to be a cornerstone event for the Club, not only raising essential funds but building meaningful partnerships in the process.

Children Share Their Hearts—and Their Art

During a special Rotary gathering to present the donations, youth from the Griset Ranch location of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego offered moving personal reflections on what the Club means to them. For many, it’s a place of friendship, encouragement, and safety after school. As a gesture of appreciation, the children presented a vibrant, collaborative piece of artwork to the Rotary Club—a colorful expression of gratitude that now serves as a lasting symbol of the bond between the two organizations.
The Boys & Girls Club later shared their thanks publicly, simply stating:
“Thanks for all you do!”

Warrior Foundation: Honoring Our Heroes

Founder Sandy Lehmkuhler accepted the donation on behalf of Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, explaining how the funds will support critical services for post-9/11 veterans recovering from injury and adjusting to civilian life. The organization provides transitional housing, mentoring, and a pathway toward independence.
The Foundation also posted its appreciation on social media, writing:
“We are so honored by this partnership. Such an amazing Club and so filled with positive energy! Thank you for your generosity and support of our local warriors.”

Investing in Young Adults Exiting Foster Care

Also present was Rajah Gainey, Director of Philanthropy at Just in Time for Foster Youth, who spoke about the organization’s mission to support young people as they transition out of foster care. JIT offers programs in housing, education, financial literacy, and career development—all designed to help former foster youth achieve lasting self-sufficiency. ECR’s donation will directly contribute to empowering these young adults at a pivotal moment in their lives.

More Than a Fundraiser

Reflecting on the event’s impact, Gretchen Mitchell, Rotary Chairwoman for the Golf Ball Drop, shared:
“The Golf Ball Drop is not just a fun event—it’s a way to create real impact. These donations represent hope, dignity, and opportunity. We’re proud to support organizations that align so closely with Rotary’s mission of service above self.”
From grateful children and determined veterans to resilient young adults building their futures, the stories behind these donations are a powerful reminder that community service isn’t just about giving—it’s about connection, compassion, and creating lasting change.
